A COMPARISON STUDY OF FIFO, PQ, AND WFQ DISCIPLINES USING OPNET SIMULATION

Abstract (English):
As part of the resource allocation methods, each router must implement a queuing discipline that specifies how packets are buffered before being transmitted. To manage which packets are transmitted (bandwidth allocation) and which packets are dropped, various queuing disciplines can be applied (buffer space). A packet's delay is influenced by the queuing discipline by how long it must wait before being transferred. Priority queuing, weighted fair queuing, and first-in-first-out queuing are a few examples of common queuing techniques. Using simulation, this work clarifies the comparative analysis of different fields and spots a light on which to choose and when.
