The article examines the relationship between the formation of professional education of railway engineers in Russia and the construction of the first railways in the country, the historical influence of Emperor Nicholas I on this process, and the key role in the training of the first railway engineers of the Institute of the Corps of Railway Engineers, founded by Emperor Alexander I, in which Augustine Betancourt laid the foundation for the training of engineers.
