The article analyzes the current situation with the level of education at an engineering university. It shows the need to introduce new forms of advanced training for faculty members in order to ensure high-quality training for future engineers, researchers, and scientists in the railway industry. Using the example of the Department of Carriages and Carriage Maintenance at the St. Petersburg State Transport University, the article demonstrates the steps taken to address these global challenges
